Nashville to St Charles

Today's blog is sponsored by Top Shelf Management.

Hi Folks,

We set off from Nashville at 9.30am with the intention of driving to Blytheville, about 221 miles/356 kilometres.   The idea was that we might visit a few tourist attractions along the way.   Once again, the Muppet's took over and the cars slipped into over drive.   We ended up driving to St Charles, about 30k's the other side of St Louis, a total of 439 miles/706 kilometres.   Of all the sights we passed, most of us were disappointed that we didn't call in to see the Casey Jones Steam Engine and Museum.   We're all old enough to remember racing home from school to watch the show on the telly.   Most of us even remember the stars name, Alan Dale Jnr.

For lunch, we stopped at the Grecian Steakhouse in Dyersburg and had the all you can eat buffet.   Everyone loaded up on the veggies and salad.   Much appreciated after all the chicken wings and chicken tenders we've coped for most lunches.

We got to St Charles at 5.50pm and that's when the Muppet's took over completely.   After 50 minutes of cars going every which way; nearly checking into a Holiday Inn in the industrial area with a great view of empty overgrown building blocks; and Tim's GPS taking him to a hotel in an empty paddock; we checked into the Embassy Suites with a view of neatly mown grass.     This cost us $70 per room more than the rooms at the Holiday Inn.   Our disappointment about the cost was soon overcome when reception told us they have free 'cocktails' (mixed drinks, draught beer and snacks) from 5.30 till 7.30.   Someone  got his $70 worth in bourbon and diet coke.

No problems getting the boys to shout at this bar when it was free.

Off to have a look around historic St Charles now and then off to wherever the Muppet's take us.
