Hi Folks,
We made up for the lack of touristy things yesterday by doing THREE today.
Firstly, we went for a walk around historic downtown St Charles. A beautiful area which was very similar to an extra large Sovereign Hill. It was the point where Lewis and Clark set off to trace the source of the Missouri River from where it joined the Mississippi.
It was then off to the Fast Lane Classic Cars showroom.
Ron decided he'd had enough of the 'Jelly Belly' coach and bought this little beauty.
Just a lazy $124,995.
Jeffsy wanted to get in on the act, but this is all he could afford.
We then headed off for Fort Madison and at Hannibal, saw a sign for Mark Twain's home. Miracle of miracles, we turned off and visited it.
Onward we went to Fort Madison, and those rascally Muppet's took over again. No accommodation available there and had to drive on to Burlington. Had to lose each other first, no one would answer their radio and people didn't know their east from their west. That's to be expected though, as on our first day in the USA, the question was asked if north was in the same direction as it is in Australia.
We arrived in Burlington at 6.20 pm and spent 15 minutes in a car park trying to find out which way to go. No thanks to the Muppet's, we finally checked in to the Holiday Inn. Had dinner and a few beers at Gator's and now off to bed.
Regards,
The DMTC
