Our 3rd Day On Route 66 - Rolla To Claremore

Today's post is sponsored by Trillium (an invoice is in the mail Joe).

Hi Folks,

We had our first Alcohol Free Day yesterday.   No one's feeling any better today, so we've decided to all go back on the grog for the rest of the trip.

We've received more information from Tim and Mal.   Tim's taken the 'Malinator' out for dinner for his birthday 'AGAIN'.   We haven't seen any candles in the steaks yet.   This time it's for it being his birthday in Hawaii time.   Mal's liking it so much he's thinking of flying home via the Faulkland Islands so he gets another one.   Just a reminder Tim, it's not coming out of the kitty.
We've continued along the Missouri and then Kansas sections of Historic Route 66 today.         At one stage, we went from Missouri to Kansas, back into Missouri and then into Oklahoma, all within the space of 30 minutes.
Since we left Chicago, Hully and Jeffsy have taken up residence in the 'Penthouse' of the Hollywood Wagon.   This comprised of a beautiful leather bench seat down the back, bay windows, personal air-conditioning, foot rests and cup holders.   Ron decided to end this little love tryst and put Jeffsy in the driver's seat today.   Big mistake Ronnie.   First thing Jeffsy does is a 'Tour De Donut' around Rolla, then onto a dirt road which became a dead end.

We persisted with Jeffsy's driving and visited the town of Marshfield, the birthplace of Edwin Hubble, the inventor of the Hubble Telescope.   They have a quarter size replica of the telescope in the town square.

It was then on to Paradise Springs where we came across another of the many old service stations along Route 66.

After Paradise Springs we came across the 66 Drive-In at Carthage.

We're at Claremore now after having driven 309 miles for the day.   Everyone gets a bit tired and cranky by the end of the day, but not Hully though.   Just for you Keren, here's another photograph of him enjoying the sights.   He says he'll look at the photographs when we get back.
We've just returned from Helen's Salon (Yes, that's how they spelt saloon) where we had a drink or 12.   For dinner, they had to have food delivered from Eggbert's Restaurant next door.   Pretty good food considering it was in polystyrene containers'.
No Ron in these photos Woodie.   Like you, he must have had a better offer.   Not really.   Just didn't want to leave his cold beer after a tiring day.

Regards,
The DMTC
