Our 5th Day On Route 66 - Weatherford To Amarillo

Today's post is sponsored by Border Security Service (an invoice is in the mail Justin)

Hi Folks,

After leaving our hotel this morning, we went straight to the General Thomas P Stafford Air and Space Museum.   Stafford was born in Weatherford, duxed his class as a pilot and went on to be an astronaut in the Apollo program and eventually became a director of NASA.   The museum contained all types of air and space craft and Stafford memorabilia.

Stafford's 'Fly By The Seat Of Your Pants Award'.
  A piece of lunar rock.

After the museum, we called in at another Ronnie heaven.   The Western Store at Weatherford where he manged to buy another three hats and three pairs of socks for $89, after a discount of 45% for paying cash.

It was then off from Weatherford to Amarillo.   Do you know the way to Amarillo?   Thank God someone in our car did, because we did a couple of 'Tour De Donuts' getting there.
Next stop, the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum in Clinton, Oklahoma.

We travelled on for a while looking for a Cracker Barrel.   No luck finding one, so the next best thing, Denny's.   After a serve of soup, chicken tenders and onion rings, what else would a man want?   An ice-cream sundae.
We crossed the border into Texas at 3.45 pm.   No 'Texas' Route 66 signs.   Apparently too tight to pay for them.
We arrived in Amarillo and checked in to the Best Western at about 5.40 pm, having driven about 205 miles for the day.   98 degrees and a very hot wind.   After a beer and short rest, it was off to The Big Texan steak house in their limousine.

We tried to get Jeffsy to take the challenge and eat the 72 oz steak, four crumbed shrimp, bread roll, plate of salad and four hot peppers in 60 minutes.   It costs $75 and if you eat it in 60 minutes, it's free.   This bloke tried and this is what he had left after the 60 minutes.

This is Jeffsy's 18 oz steak, which he consumed with a sweet potato, coleslaw and two rolls with George's coleslaw, and then he had an ice-cream sundae.
   Ronnie being serenaded.
Sorry Sylvia, we couldn't keep him away from the big stubbies.
Sorry Keren, no photograph of dad asleep today.   He still had yesterdays shirt on and we didn't want to embarrass him.   He did sleep though.

We're running out of sponsors for our blog, so if you've got any suggestions, let us known.   Very good value, only $200 a post.

Regards,
The DMTC
