Our 8th Day On Route 66 - Santa Fe To Winslow

Today's post is sponsored by Toorak Fine Dentistry (an invoice is in the mail Rob)

Hi Folks,

Back on the old Route 66 again today after our R&R in Santa Fe.   We got away at 8 am with the intention of having breakfast at Albuquerque.   Nothing suitable open (mostly Mexican), so we drove on to Laguna where we refuelled the Hollywood Wagon and finally got breakfast at the Laguna Burger Cafe about 10.15 am.

Continued on through Gallup without stopping as nothing much there.   At 1.15 pm, we crossed the border into Arizona  and gained another hour, making it 12.15 pm.   They have a Welcome Centre there and outside the toilets are signs advising the following:-

We then visited the Petrified Forest National Park, which included the Painted and Rainbow Deserts.

Apart from the changes in the the topography and the various rock formations, a fairly uninteresting road to drive along.   Some photographs taken along the way:-

We're in Winslow, Arizona now after having driven 379 miles for the day.   It's 106 degrees and we've just checked in to America's Best Value Inn.   Granted, we're all a bit tired and testy, but the little Punjabi Indian on the check-in desk cracked it when one of us asked if we were in a Third World Country when you had to get the key to the toilet in the lobby.   He also cracked it when Hully wanted a non-smoking room and he couldn't understand how a smoker would want a non-smoking room.   He even had a go at Hully because he smelt of cigarettes.
We've just been down the street for dinner at BoJo's Steak and Sports Club.   Everyone had the 10oz steak except that guts Jeffsy, who had the 16oz one.

For all you Eagles fans, just think of the lyrics for Take It Easy.   Did you guess it?   If you didn't, we were on 'the corner in Winslow Arizona'.

Nearly forgot Keren, but here's dad enjoying the sights once again.
Regards,
The DMTC

  3. As long as when you get to the hotel in California there's no warm smell of colita's rising up through the air
